We’re back in the Lake District this summer, all the way over in the stunning, wild valley of Ennerdale.
Booking opens Monday 7th April

Places available: 40
For the last 23 years, Ennerdale has been one of England’s first and largest rewilding areas, allowing the river Liza to form its own natural course, replacing the conifer plantations with native trees, and encouraging wildlife. Classic Wainrights Pillar, Great Gable and Kirk Fell tower over the valley for mountain climbers.
We have exclusive use of the Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre, one of a very small number of buildings in the valley, with two cosy lounges and a field for barbecues, games, and stargazing (albeit difficult on the summer solstice). This is a very remote area with no mobile reception, although a payphone is available on site.
Weekends away are only open to Ramblers members. You will need to arrange your own transport, although the group will try to put people in touch to arrange lift shares. There is of course no public transport close to the hostel.
We have access to the bunkhouse from 16:00 on Friday, but you are welcome to arrive at any time after that. Some people like to travel early to make the most of the day, while others prefer to travel after work. It’s a long drive to Ennerdale, so I recommend not setting out too late. The finish time will depend on how long any walks on Sunday take before returning home.
