Walks
Join us for a walk in the beautiful Peak District National Park and beyond…
We offer a range of walks around Sheffield and the Peak District varying in length and difficulty
If you’re an experienced hiker used to walking long distances, why not jump straight on to a moderate or hard walk? If you’re just beginning your love affair with the great outdoors, we’d suggest starting with a slightly shorter or easier walk. We make walks accessible by public transport wherever possible and we often finish in a pub or café.
Booking on a Walk
If you’re keen to join us on a walk, please see the specific instructions in the walk details. If you book on a walk but are then unable to make it, please be courteous to the walk leader and fellow members by notifying the walk leader or cancelling your place.
Getting There
We make walks accessible by public transport wherever possible, but for more remote hikes we often organise car shares. This is explained in the description and arranged on a walk-by-walk basis. Please note whether the walk is circular or linear when planning how to get there!
There is a roughly hourly rail service from Sheffield to Manchester along the Hope Valley Line.
Stagecoach, First Bus, Hulleys of Baslow and TM Travel run regular bus services from Sheffield to various locations in the Peak District. The website bustimes.org is reliable source for timetables.
Accessibility
SWG is run by volunteers and we strive to be as friendly and inclusive as possible. To help you judge whether a walk will be suitable for you, the walk description states the difficulty level, the terrain and the length of the route. If you have any doubts or questions about specific a walk, please contact the walk leader directly. If you have accessibility requirements and you’d like to join a walk, please give the walk leader/committee as much notice as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements. If you have any further queries, please email the committee at sheffieldwalkinggroup@hotmail.com.
