Weekends Away
Join us for an adventure off the beaten track
Explore the UK with us
SWG organises weekends away to beautiful parts of the country such as the Lake District, Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire, Northumberland, the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and Shropshire. We normally travel up on the Friday evening and typically stay in self-catered bunkhouses or hostel accommodation, often with a pub nearby!
Remember: you need to be a Ramblers member to go on weekends away.
What to Expect
on an SWG weekend away…
Walks
Walks, first and foremost! We try to have a couple of options on every day. The walk length and difficulty very much depends on which SWG member is volunteering to lead the walk; normally there’ll be something for everyone.
Costs
Financially and practically we try to car share wherever possible – it’s better for the environment and our bank balances too. Non-drivers are expected to contribute to fuel costs and won’t be left to walk home at the end of the weekend!
Accommodation
We typically book part of or a whole hostel for the group’s accommodation as this often works out cheaper and it’s nice to be together for meals, drinks and social times. Sometimes it’s possible to book your own camping or accommodation close by, so if bunk beds aren’t your bag, please speak to the person organising the weekend away for details.
Kit
If you’re wondering what to take, consider that this is the UK, that the weather can be very changeable and that you may be sharing a room with other people. A torch, ear plugs and a sense of humour are always a good idea. Add to that comfortable footwear (different from the ones you’ll be walking in), warm layers and a waterproof, and you won’t go far wrong. The organiser will give you further guidance tailored to the particular destination.
