A Marvellous Camping Trip to Yorkshire

  • Whitby, England United Kingdom (map)

We have exclusive use of Mr Malcolms Marvellous Camping Field. It's a basic site with only a few facilities so numbers are limited, but it's a beautiful, eco-friendly site with great views, a communal campfire and a fun name!

Here's the plan:

Friday
Arrival and pitch your tent.
Bring and cook your own food or stop by the nearby Chippy in Sleights
Drinks by the fire (weather permitting)

Saturday
Provide your own breakfast
Walk from campsite (potentially to Falling Floss, 10 mile loop)
Pub meal in Sleight (TBC)

Sunday
Provide your own breakfast.
Pack up tents.
Driving to Whitby Park and Ride, then bus to Whitby.
Coastal loop walk to Robin Hood Bay (with time to explore Robin Hoods Bay) and back to Whitby (12 miles)
Home time

 Transport:
You will need to organise your own transport to and from the campsite.
Public Transport: The extended Arriva 95 service between Whitby and Lealholm directly passes the site and can be hailed at the bottom of the drive. There is also the Coastliner 840 bus service from York and Leeds to Whitby that stops in Sleights village a mile from the site (War Memorial stop) and Northern Rail provide links from Middlesbrough to Whitby that stop at both Grosmont and Sleights (the neighbouring villages).
If you are driving, where possible please lift share. Details will be made available of who is driving.

Other details:
You will need to bring your own small tent (if you want to share a tent with others in the group then you're welcome to organise that).

If you want hot drinks/meals/breakfast you will need to bring your own burner/provisions. You can rent some essentials from the campsite, see the FAQ section of their website.

Sleight is a 20min walk from the campsite and has a Spar, Butcher/Farmshop, Bakery, Chippy, Pub.

On the walks it should be possible to get lunch at Falling Floss Cafe (Saturday) and Robin Hoods Bay (Sunday) but you may prefer to bring your own.

Cost & Booking:

£32 which will need to be paid in full to confirm your place.
This pays for 2 nights camping and some wood for the campfire. You should provide your own food.
There is limited availability, when full a waiting list will be created.
If you can't make the trip then a refund will only be given if someone on the waiting list can take your place.

When you have completed the sign up form using the button below, you will be sent details of the account to send money to, this will confirm your place. Further details will be sent nearer the time. For insurance reasons, weekends away are only available to Ramblers Members, if you're not yet a member you can join at www.ramblers.org.uk
