Ashford in the Water Circular

  • Sheepwash bridge 17 Fennel Street Bakewell, England, DE45 1QF United Kingdom (map)

Organiser: Miranda C

Difficulty: Moderate (7.8 miles)

Start time: 10:45

Start point: Meet by the Sheepwash Bridge at martini.hoaxes.inefficient

A walk with plenty of things! Starting in Ashford in the Water and making our way up to the Monsal Trail skirting the side of the Thornbridge estate. Through Headstone Tunnel then dropping down into Deep Dale on the other side of the Monsal Viaduct. A lovely amble through the valley and then making our way up to Magpie Mine where we’ll have a nosey at the old lead mine, and then make our way back down towards Ashford in the Water and finish with a well deserved trip to The Bulls Head.

Not too hilly, gentle incline up towards Magpie Mine, and then downhill all the way back. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch. There will be cows - probably not the best walk for dogs.

Public transport or car sharing options: Buses: 218 Peakline or the 65 to Bakewell and the Peak Sightseer (for a bonus open top bus ride!) towards Chatsworth takes you to Ashford in the Water.
Small car park off Court Lange operates on an honesty box for £2. Happy to take two extras in my car if you can get to Hunters Bar.
