It’s not quite the Yorkshire Dales, and it’s not quite the Cheviots: We’re going to the North Pennines! A lovely independent hostel on a quiet country lane, Ninebanks is a great base within reach of Hadrian’s Wall, the Howgill Fells, and Teesdale.
Booking opens 10 March 2025
Price £TBC
Places available: 28*
The North Pennines are a region of open heather moors and peatlands, rolling dales, tumbling upland rivers, leafy woods and a wealth of bird, animal and plant life. A little further away you can visit the remains of Hadrian’s Wall (30 minutes drive to the most famous section near Once Brewed), and High Force waterfall in Teesdale is a popular stop on the journey.
Weekends away are only open to Ramblers members. You will need to arrange your own transport, although the group will try to put people in touch to arrange lift shares.
We have access to the bunkhouse from 16:00 on Friday, but you are welcome to arrive at any time after that. Some people like to travel early to make the most of the day, while others prefer to travel after work. The finish time will depend on how long any walks on Sunday take before returning home.
*28 places assumes that the double beds in the hostel are in use. There is also a separate chalet next to the hostel, consisting of two separate rooms with a double bed, or a double and a single. We have not booked this, but if you want a private room, please contact us ASAP as it may be possible to get it at a discounted rate if it hasn’t been booked by someone else.
