Too many Crookstones spoil the Brook

  • Birchin Clough Car Park SK109914 Snake Road Hope Valley, England, S33 0AB United Kingdom (map)

Somehow there are a few paths around here that I've never visited, so this is an attempt to fix that. Firstly, we follow the Roman road behind the former Snake Pass Inn, before crossing Woodlands Valley to begin a gradual ascent up Kinder Scout at Upper Ashop. At Crookstone Barn we swing round onto Crookstone Hill to climb onto Crookstone Out Moor, the easternmost tip of the Kinder Scout plateau where we should get great views of the valley from Crookstone Knoll. We continue along the north face of Kinder Scout overlooking Woodlands Valley before we descend via the fair valley of Fair Brook. Time permitting, we will then follow the bottom of the hill round into Ashop Clough to join Snake Path where we might see the first signs of autumn as we walk through the woods back to the car park.
