Well away from the Peak District, this is a morning walk around three former collieries and three former railways on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border. From the Teversal Trails visitor centre we walk the old Teversal Branch railway to Skegby Junction, where we turn onto the former Leen Valley extension line to Pleasley Pit country park. After wandering around this park, we return on the Tibshelf to Silverhill branch line, before diverting into Silverhill Wood, formerly Silverhill and Teversal Collieries and home to the highest point in Nottinghamshire, which is about as high as the entrance to Whinfell Quarry Gardens. Speaking of gardens, on the way back why not visit Hardwick Hall Gardens?
Please note that although this walk is easy, it will be paced to finish in time to visit Hardwick Hall gardens in the afternoon. See the separate social event for more details.
We are organising car shares for this walk – please indicate when booking whether you need a lift or you can offer others a lift to the start. Mask wearing is at the driver’s discretion and passengers must comply with the driver’s wishes. To give the walk leader sufficient time to ensure that there are enough cars to take everybody, booking is essential and you must book on by Friday 4th February at 6pm.
