Today is the 90th anniversary of the 1932 mass trespass on Kinder Scout, one of the most famous and significant events in the campaign for the access rights we enjoy today. To commemorate this event, this walk will visit some of the major sites of the trespass.
Starting in Edale, where the trespassers from Sheffield started, we follow the path over Edale Cross to Bowden Bridge quarry near Hayfield, where the the larger group from Manchester started. From here the trespassers walked up William Clough before climbing the western slopes of Kinder Scout near Sandy Heys and on towards Kinder Downfall, where they met another group who had walked via Kinder Low. From Kinder Downfall we go into the interior of Kinder Scout to see the restoration of the plateau over the last ten years along the path through Kinder Gates (if the ground is very wet it may be necessary to extend the walk along the Pennine Way), before returning to Edale via Grinds Brook.
