Autumnal Meander

  • Hathersage railway station Hope Valley, England, S32 1DR United Kingdom (map)

A lovely autumnal walk with a contrast between the tree-lined valleys and open moorland with some classic Peak District views along the way. A combination of footpaths and farm tracks with a few short sections on country roads. Moderate difficulty with 500m of ascent, taking 6–7 hours.

Heading south west from Hathersage we will follow the lovely Highlow Brook before climbing up onto Eyam Moor (bring wind and waterproof clothing). If it's clear we'll get good views from the trig point on Sir William Hill before dropping down to Eyam for a cup of tea/coffee at the café if it’s open. We will then head East back to the Derwent Valley, crossing the river at Froggatt and heading back to Hathersage through the fields and trees on the Derwent Valley heritage way footpath.
