Difficulty: Moderate
Start time: 10:10
Start point: SK23967695 Flora Cottages, Grindleford
End point: SK20278262 Shatton Lane
Distance (in miles): 9.5
Full description:
A route to take advantage of £2 bus fares, linking up two different routes that would otherwise be very expensive. Starting on the edge of Grindleford, we first head round the hill to Eyam and then climb up to The Barrel, highest pub in the Peak District, where we might have time for a drink, and if not there is at least a great view. Then we head north to join Bretton Clough, which joins Abney Clough at Stoke Ford. Turning upstream, we climb onto Abney Moor and then round to Shatton Moor where we can expect expansive views of the Hope Valley, before a steep descent through Shatton to join the main road near the Hope Valley Garden Centre.
Public transport or car sharing options:
Catch the number 65 bus from Sheffield Interchange at 09:35.
Return is by buses 272 (via Hunters Bar) or 257 (via Broomhill), or on the train (fare not capped, but faster)
If you are not coming from Sheffield, the closest you can park a car and still get the bus to and from the start and end is Fox House/Longshaw.
Additional info: The walk leader would like to revive the practice of having a backmarker. This is someone who helps the leader manage the group typically by monitoring the back of the group. This is a good way to help the group please message the leader if interested.
