Merrell and MIND mental health awareness walk

  • Cross Street car park Hope Valley, England, S33 8WH United Kingdom (map)

10-mile circular route from Castleton including Mam Tor and the Great Ridge.

It’s time to talk about mental health and what we all can do to help. Many of us, as well as our friends, family members and colleagues, have struggled with mental health during the pandemic. SWG is joining the fight for mental health. To this end, we’ve arranged a collaboration with mental health charity Mind and footwear & outdoor clothing brand Merrell. Together we’re going to raise awareness of the great resources available through Mind and raise some funds so they can carry on their work. Plus we will share some ideas of how we can all look after our wellbeing and opportunities to get involved. To give you a taste of what’s to come, we’ve added some links about Mind below.

About Mind

  • Mind, the mental health charity, provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. They won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

  • Mind has a confidential information and support line, Mind Infoline, available on 0300 123 3393 (lines open 9am - 6pm, Monday – Friday)

  • For information and support on staying mentally healthy at this time, visit www.mind.org.uk/coronavirus

  • Our online mental health community Side by Side is a safe space where anyone aged 18 and over with experience of a mental health problem can share their story, connect with others, access Mind’s wider information and resources, and give support in return. Find out more at www.sidebyside.mind.org.uk

  • Mind offers free resources for employers to help improve mental wellbeing. For more information, visit mind.org.uk/work

How SWG can help you?

SWG is a diverse and inclusive community of twenty- to thirty-something year olds (and the odd forty+ year-old). Even during the shortest of walks you’ll have two to three hours to chat, make friends, and enjoy/fight the weather together. If you like walking you’re guaranteed to have at least one thing in common with other SWG members. Most weekends you’ll find us in the beautiful Peak District, the perfect place to breathe and enjoy the distraction of stunning grit stone edges and takeaway hot chocolates.

How can SWG members help each other?

If you notice someone who’s quieter than  normal or not quite themselves why not ask them if everything’s okay? If you’d like to donate to Mind, please do so on our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/swgmentalhealthawareness

Arron, one of the SWG family, has written a great blog where he details the ups and downs of his Lands End to John O’Groats hiking challenge.  Honest, funny and soul bearing, this tale recounts his journey across the country and his battle with mental health.
