Lost Lad and The Hidden Clough

  • Upper Derwent Visitor Centre Hope Valley, England, S33 0AQ United Kingdom (map)

Come and join us on an exploration of the lovely, peaceful Abbey Brook Clough tucked away to the east of Derwent Reservoir.

Starting at Fairholmes car park we'll meader past the mighty Derwent Dam before following the path through the trees to the east of Derwent Reservoir. We will then climb steeply up onto the moor headed for Back Tor (good weather only) and Lost Lad. From here we can admire the long range views of Kinder, Win Hill and the Derwent Valley to the south. We will then drop down to Abbey Brook which runs down a stunning clough which is usually very quiet.

We will then follow the path back along the reservoir to the car park. Whilst this is a moderate walk a good footing on uneven footpaths is needed. If it is bad weather we will shorten the route to minimise the time spent in the wind!

8.5 miles on a mixture of gravelled paths and uneven moorland path. 500 meters of ascent, 4–5 hours walking.
