From the train station at New Mills Central, we will head across the river Goyt, through a myriad of trails to dissect Whaley Moor then High Moor. From here we continue up towards Bow Stones (10th century stone markers). At this point we also pick up the Gritstone Trail and follow it up towards Sponds Hill Trig Point at 410 m, which will provide magnificent views over the Dark Peak. After taking in the views we will head around Park Moor and down towards Lyme Park. From the park we will now be on the return leg towards Goyt Valley / river and finally the train station.
This walk is for the majority going to be heading across open moorland, using a variety of different trails, tracks and paths, so appropriate footwear is essential to the walk’s safety. Additionally, both warm insulating layers and waterproof clothing required. The walk will last over 5 hours therefore adequate food and water is needed. There will be a stop at Lyme Park but due to the walk being a Saturday, with the time that we as a group will arrive, best that all individuals be prepared for it to busy or closed.
