Coffee -> Cake -> Ice Cream -> Drink

  • Rivelin Park Café 72 Rivelin Park Road Sheffield, England, S6 5FE United Kingdom (map)

This is a calorie-positive walk! We'll start with COFFEE at everyone's favourite Rivelin-based café (Rivelin Park Café) before heading down to the end of the valley to everyone's favourite hidden wooden shack that serves Tea and CAKE (The Apple Shack). We'll then head uphill along the top of the valley past everyone's favourite bench with a view towards the Rivelin Dams. Next we'll walk down everyone's favourite Wildlife Trust site (Wyming Brook), round the Rivelin Dams and heading up again to the top of the other side of the valley. Soon we'll be at everyone's favourite Sheffield Dairy (Our Cow Molly) for ICE CREAM! The final stretch undulates to everyone's favourite Stannington pub (The Rivelin Hotel – still don't know why they didn't call it the Rivel-Inn!) for a DRINK! There's a final 30 minute walk along the Rivelin back to our starting point where we can go our separate ways, play on the playground or head to another pub.

Paths: Standard mix of muddy paths and rocky tracks; Wyming Brook can be slippery!

Total ascent: 555m

Bring: Usual walking stuff; a reusable mug; cash (I don't think Apple Shack accepts card); savoury snacks (we won't have a dedicated lunch stop but there'll be time at the various food establishments to eat); good vibes!

Leader: Paul H (07986844741)

Distance: 11 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

Start/End: Rivelin Park Café

Transport: Although there is on-street parking PLEASE use public transport if possible (or walk). The Supertram goes to Malin Bridge then it's a nice walk along the Rivelin to our meeting point. The 81/82 bus goes down Ecclesall Road and towards Malin Bridge as well. Lots of buses stop at Hillsborough, which is also a short walk away.
