Around Abney – The Secret Peak

  • Bamford station car park Hope Valley, England, S33 0AH United Kingdom (map)

Come and explore a quieter side of the Peak District. A mixture of woodland, secluded valleys, farmland and, of course, moorland, giving some great views of the Hope Valley. Predominantly on footpaths with a few short sections on country roads. Moderate difficulty with 500m of ascent, taking 5 to 6 hours.

Starting at Bamford station we will initially follow the River Derwent before climbing up through the fields to Highlow Hall. From here we'll descend through the trees into Abney Clough and follow the brook up to the hamlet of Abney. Here we'll get our moorland fix crossing Abney Moor before dropping back down into the Hope Valley.

We will take a lower, slightly shorter route if the weather is bad.

Please bring lunch, snacks and waterproof clothing.
