All of Alport Clough

  • Birchin Clough car park England, S33 0AB United Kingdom (map)

10-mile circular route. A challenging walk that gives us the sense of freedom that only exploring an empty valley with no footpaths and walking across open moorland brings.

The walk starts of gently along the Old Roman Road before working its way to the base of the stunning Alport valley. We will head up along the public right of way past Alport Castles and the pine plantations before leaving the footpaths behind. From here we will make our own way to the head of the valley, some small sections will be very steep and we may need to make a couple of stream crossings where no bridges exist. Once we reach the head of the valley we will navigate back across open moorland, some parts may be very wet and boggy, to Birchin Clough.

A hard walk on a mixture of footpaths, sheep tracks and no paths, 10 miles, 750m of ascent. Expect mud.

Waterproof shoes and a love for a challenging walk are recommended but not essential.
