20 Miles for 20 Years: A Grand SWG Day Out

  • Hope railway station Hope Valley, England, S33 6RU United Kingdom (map)

Important: Due to the train strikes on Saturday and the difficulty of this walk, we have decided to close the Eventbrite booking. This is to avoid the walk leader having to deal with last minute transportation issue or turning away people on the day.

If you would like to attend and haven’t yet booked please contact Matt on the phone number below to discuss.

——————————————————————————————————————-

Join us on this strenuous yet rewarding 20-mile circular to celebrate SWG’s 20th anniversary! The length and ascent of this walk make it suitable for experienced walkers only.

Leader: Matthew B (07961425386)

Distance: 20 miles

Ascent: 924 metres

Difficulty: Hard

Start/End: Hope railway station

Transport: Please note that there is a rail strike on this day and hence there are no train options to or from the start of the walk.

We will start bright and early in Hope, immediately heading south to Rebellion Knoll and across Abney Moor, where you can expect amazing views taking in all of the Castleton hills. From here we will continue through Great Hucklow before crossing into the Derbyshire Dales nature reserve and walking along Cressbrook Dale. At the walk’s halfway point, there may be an opportunity to stop for refreshments at Blueberry Café and in the former railway building at Miller's Dale station.

We will then head back north through Wheton and Bradwell, partly following the Limestone Way. We will have a pub stop in Bradwell at the 18-mile mark before walking the final two miles back to Hope.

With the terrain and various stops we expect this walk to take at least 10 hours, so please plan to be out for the whole day – we will not be able to rush back to accommodate any evening commitments!

Parking at Hope station costs £3 for the day. Download and use the RingGo app or pay online at www.RingGo.co.uk – use RingGo Code 35736

You will need:

  • A high level of physical fitness and hiking experience

  • Appropriate footwear

  • Several layers and waterproofs to cope with changing conditions

  • Plenty of food, snacks and water (at least 2 litres)

  • Sun cream (remember you can still burn through cloud!) – sunglasses and a hat also recommended

Eventbrite Booking has ended. Please contact Matt to discuss joining the walk.
