Linear walk ending in wisewood, with a walk down to Malin Bridge/Hillsborough tram stops.
Walk Leader: Liz, C.
Start point: Rivelin Park Cafe, S6
End point: Wadsley Common. Rose and Crown pub, S6
Distance: 9 miles
Starting from the Rivelin Park Cafe, we walk alongside the river to Rivelin Reservoir. From there we will head North through the fields and farm land of Load Brook, Dungworth to Dam Flask. There is an option to walk around the reservoir, but depending on time we can head straight North again through paths to Holdworth and East over to Wadsley common. The walk ends at the Rose and Crown pub and I shall be walking my way back to Crookes up some very un-walking group road paths, delightful!
The walk aims to finish at 3pm but may be a tad longer as I have only scouted thr route once on a run so bear with me whilst I get my bearings. Feel free to get involved with navigation. I have a GPX map of the route and compass should anyone really want to get stuck in!
It's a good walk to explore the many twisty and mostly hidden routes through the hillside of Rivelin and parts of Loxley.
The usual kit is necessary:
Good footwear for muddy conditions through forests and fields.
Food and drink for lunch spots and to stay fuelled and hydrated, even in the cold
Wind proof and water proof outerwear
Warm layers to keep you dry, maybe even carry spares in case of poor weather
Public transport or car sharing options: Local walk for those based in S10 and surrounding areas. There is a Tram service to Malin Bridge (BLUE) or Hillsborough (YELLOW) with a short walk to the Cafe. There are bus servies that run near depending on direction of travel. The walk officially ends at The Rose and Crown pub at the end of the Wadsley Common. I will be walking group memebers back to Malin Bridge and the cafe along busy roads and those who are heading to Crookes I am walking up from there.
I do not drive or own a car to illegally drive anyone anywhere, sorry! But please feel free to message on the FB group as others may be willing to share.
There is parking in the Rivelin area, some road side free parking too.
