Description
The Dearne Valley Ramblers are putting on this walk, ahead of the South Yorkshire & North East Derbyshire Ramblers AGM taking place at the end of the walk. You are welcome to attend the walk on its own, and there is no obligation to stay for the AGM afterwards, unless you wish to.
The walk is a gentle one along the South Yorkshire Navigation Canal from Mexborough to Old Denaby with views from Howdike Hill over South Yorkshire, returning via Kilnhurst Ings. The walk will take us through urban green spaces in the local area, which have picturesque views and historical canals. There will be a little bit of road walking, but not too much. The walk is flat and solid underfloor (even in the winter season). We then return to Rowms Lane ready for the AGM.
Rowms Lane social club has toilet facilities, car park and fully licensed bar (chargeable). There is also another public car park approximately 50m away, if the clubs carpark is full. Where possible please car share with other ramblers. The club should be open from 9:30am. Refreshments available at the end of the walk.
AGM visitors that are also walking should, where possible, bring clean shoes to change into and a packed lunch (as there will only be a refreshment stop on route.) The AGM will start at 2pm so please arrive in plenty of time if not walking. Light refreshments will be available during the meeting.
