Grindsbrook Clough Scramble with added plane wreck

  • Edale train station Hope Valley, England, S33 7ZN United Kingdom (map)

Our adventure begins by ascending Kinder Scout from Edale via Grindsbrook Clough, a Grade 1 Scramble (the easiest level but still not for everyone). We’ll be clambering over rocks, using our hands at times and picking our way up the brook via this fun route (for more scrambling info see https://www.thebmc.co.uk/hill-skills-scrambling).

Kinder Scout has many plane crash sites and we’ll hunt for one of these sites nestled amongst the boggy, grooved and rough ground needed to navigate Kinder Scout’s plateau. The route proceeds to the eerie and peculiar rock formations of the Woolpacks, a set of curved and smoothed boulders which could easily resemble prehistoric carved monuments. Descending Kinder Scout is via a more exciting, rough but surprisingly soft ground route before the more sedate return to Edale.

NOTE: Kinder Scout can significantly colder and wetter even during the summer months, therefore warm layers are required.
