Are you keen to lead a walk but wanted some hints and tips? Come along and learn some skills to help you become a walk leader. We’ll start outside the café at the Longshaw Estate to spend an hour going over some route and walk planning basics (the café opens at 10 for a brew). If you’re already comfortable reading a map and planning a route that’s great, you can bring your knowledge to the group.
We will then each plan and lead a short section of the walk to give you some experience ‘leading from the front’. We can talk about group management (how not to lose people) and share some walk leader tips between us.
The walk (only for those wanting to learn leadership skills) will be an easy-to- moderate 6-mile walk along footpaths (if you read the map right…). We will be standing around for a bit so please wrap up warm. If you have the ‘OL1 The Peak District – Dark Peak Area’ map please bring it along. Do not worry if you don’t as I will bring some printouts. It is also worth downloading maps.me (free) or the ViewRanger app (or your chosen map app) so you have the tools to plan your own walk in the future. Expected finish time between 1pm and 2pm.
As spaces are limited, please cancel your ticket if you are unable to make it. If you’re an existing leader and want to help, drop me a message. Please do not sign up for the event as this will take up a space. I’m not a qualified guide, I’m just sharing some hints and tips.
